Issues of inequality have been central to public policy debate over the past decade. Some central banks stand accused of having worsened those inequality problems through their monetary policy actions. To what extent does the empirical evidence support that hypothesis? And what role, more broadly, should distributional considerations play in the setting of central bank policy?
