Dialogues of the Carmelites

Based on the closing days of the Reign of Terror during the French Revolution in 1794, this opera, told in 12 ‘dialogues’, fictionalises the martyrdom of the Carmelite nuns who refused to renounce their vocation and were guillotined in Paris. This opera takes performers and audience on a staggering journey of fear, love and conviction.

The five-star (Limelight) production team of Jane Davidson and Matthew Adey offer a dynamic and imaginative production set within the grounds of Abbotsford Convent. This masterwork of 20th century art is not to be missed; join us for a rare artistic event.
