University of Melbourne Symphony Orchestra at Hamer Hall

The University of Melbourne Symphony Orchestra presents a concert of American Showpieces, with a program that is quintessentially American in sound and spirit. Special tribute will be made to Leonard Bernstein, in what would have been his 100th year, by performing the ever-popular Symphonic Dances from West Side Story. Copland’s uplifting ballet, Appalachian Spring, tells the story of a couple’s wedding day in a Shaker community, whilst Gershwin’s An American in Paris takes you through the hustle and bustle of Parisian streets in the 1920s. John Adams’ metronomic masterpiece, Short Ride in a Fast Machine, and Bernstein's Overture to Candide also feature.
