Join Michael O’Brien, a retired senior army officer, for an exploration of the University and the Great War. In this Friends of the Baillieu Library special event, Mr O'Brien will explore enlistment and its encouragement; the death and injury toll; commemoration; faculty participation; the role of the University Rifles; responses to opposition to the war and conscription and the several wartime publications. He will also look at some of the immediate post-war changes to the University.
This free public lecture has been organised by the Friends of the Baillieu Library Committee. The Friends of the Baillieu Library actively contribute to the development and accessibility of the Library’s Special Collections through the purchase of notable works and the funding of conservation and digitisation projects.
