Over 700 000 Rohingya were driven from Myanmar into Bangladesh in 2017–2018, in violence that captured global headlines. The United Nations has labelled the action ethnic cleansing with genocidal intent. The International Criminal Court has opened investigations. This seminar will draw on Dr Ware’s extensive research into this conflict to elaborate on the history and conflict dynamics, how and why the ethnic cleansing occurred, the implications of this, and how it is being dealt with (including attempts to resolve the situation).
