Orpheus in the Underworld (Orphée aux enfers) is a satirical treatment of the ancient Greek myth of Orpheus by the French composer Jacques Offenbach. This comic delight includes the famous ‘Can-Can’, and the production draws on the original French text by Hector Crémieux and Ludovic Halévy combined with Jonathan Biggins and Phil Scott’s hilarious English libretto.
Musical direction is by the renowned all-round musical entertainer, Guy Noble, who conducts, speaks and writes about music. Building on the recent success of Albert Herring, staging is by Jane Davidson and design by Matthew Adey, and the company comprises the students of the Master of Music in Opera Performance.
