The Melbourne Conservatorium of Music invites all clarinet players to the annual Melbourne Conservatorium of Music Clarinet Mega Day. Come along for a day of all things clarinet. Featuring masterclasses with leading professionals including a VCE masterclass, warm up session, vendor exhibits, panel discussions, Melbourne Conservatorium of Music Clarinet Choir and a young artist competition, culminating with a final performance featuring all participants!

David Griffiths – Australia Ensemble, Ensemble Liaison, Senior Lecturer in Clarinet, Melbourne Conservatorium of Music

Philip Green – Associate Principal Clarinet, Opera Australia Orchestra, Former Principal Clarinet, New Zealand Symphony Orchestra

Alan Vivian - Former Principal Clarinet, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Australian Chamber Orchestra, Australia Ensemble

Natasha Fearnside - Teaches at the VCASS and current Melbourne Conservatorium of Music Master of Music student

2019 MCM Clarinet Day Young Artist Competition Open to Clarinettists ages 15-24

Preliminary repertoire:

First movement of a standard concerto or Carl Maria von Weber's Concertino for Clarinet and Orchestra in E-flat Major, op. 26

One of Bela Kovac’s Hommages for solo clarinet or a study by Rose or Uhl.

Preliminary video round deadline: September 22, 2019

All preliminary auditions are required to be performed and recorded with piano accompaniment

Participants can submit YouTube link.

Final round repertoire:

First movement of a standard concerto or Carl Maria von Weber's Concertino for Clarinet and Orchestra in Eb Major, Op. 26

In the final round, you may choose to use your own accompanist, or one will be provided.

The final round will be held at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music on Sunday, October 6, 2019 during the 2019 MCM Clarinet Mega Day.

First Prize: Backun Barrel and Bell (valued at $1,500)

Second Prize: D’Addario Reserve Evolution Clarinet Mouthpiece (valued at $230)

Third Prize: 12 Month Subscription to Online Virtuoso (valued at $120)
