The Brown Room
Level 1, Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering (Building 193)

Parkville campus

In 2019 the School of Electrical, Mechanical and Infrastructure (EMI) Engineering is launching a series of regular industry seminars. It is anticipated that these will be held quarterly and feature key industry speakers delivering seminars on topics that are relevant and useful for our staff and students (e.g. engineering skills needed in industry, how to work in partnership with industry, and so on).

The first School of EMI Industry Seminar will feature Mr Michael Baker of ExxonMobil. Michael is the Engineering Manager at ExxonMobil’s petrochemical plant at Altona, and he’ll deliver a seminar on the many and varied issues facing his industry. You can expect to hear about practical challenges like maintaining aging infrastructure in an ever-changing regulatory environment with increased business and societal pressure for sustainability and efficiency, competing for capital within the company, accessing and retaining skilled employees, and realising the benefits of digital manufacturing round out the list of top challenges for today’s engineering manager.

Refreshments will be served after the seminar.
