Join Duo Agogo (Adam May and, Paul Carey) for a performance of samba, choro and baiā guitar, featuring the Brazilian cavaquinho. Their performance presents a fiery display of one of the first truly Brazilian instrumental music forms performed from an Australian perspective.
Duo Agogo will perform at the Grainger Museum in conjunction with Instrument of Change: Visions of the Guitar in the Early Twentieth Century. This exhibition delves into the guitar’s varied contexts, from the BMG (Banjo, Mandolin, Guitar) movement of the late Victorian era to Hispanic, Pacific and North American guitar traditions up to the 1930s. It reveals how Percy Grainger engaged with the guitar through these traditions, embracing the instrument as both performer and composer. The exhibition also includes some rare and beautiful instruments on-loan from a private collection.
