Join us for an evening of solo, duo and quartet exploratory music-making curated by saxophone virtuoso Scott McConnachie, featuring Jenny Barnes, Erkki Veltheim and PRIME.

Jenny Barnes (born 1981 Adelaide, Australia) is a vocalist, performer and video maker based in Melbourne. Barnes examines and mimics field recordings of Arctic mammals, domestic pets and birds to achieve an extensive and diverse vocal capacity. She studies the rhythmic cadences and pitch modulations of human languages and applies her findings to an improvisatory musical context. Barnes has travelled extensively throughout rural Australia, Western Europe and Scandinavia gathering fuel for her work into the musicality of language.

Erkki Veltheim (born 1976 Finland) is an Australian composer, improviser, performer and interdisciplinary artist. He has long-standing collaborations with improvising trumpet virtuoso Scott Tinkler and composer-pianist Anthony Pateras, and has also performed with many other musicians including Jon Rose, Han Bennink, Wadada Leo Smith and Paul Grabowsky. Erkki holds a Master of Arts, for which he researched connections between music and ritual.

PRIME is the result of an ongoing musical relationship between Ren Walters and Scott McConnachie. Having played together for several years in various settings and groups around Australia they consistently return to the duo format. Their approach spans gentle melodic interplay and white hot, ferocious density.

The evening will culminate with a joining of Jenny Barnes, Erkki Veltheim and PRIME.
