Other Appointments and Qualifications: Jane has worked extensively in public health advocacy for over twenty-five years, firstly in tobacco control and, since 2006, in obesity prevention and alcohol control. She is involved in a range of research collaborations, sits on committees including the Australia New Zealand Obesity Society and the Australian National Preventive Health Agency’s Expert Committee on Obesity and is active in the media. She recently returned from a Churchill Fellowship sponsored by the Jack Brockhoff Foundation travelling to the US and UK for three months. She received her Masters of Public Health from Monash University in 2001 after completing a Bachelor of Arts (Public Policy) in 1984.
Influence: Having worked in tobacco control for 20 years, Professor Martin saw that the processed food and advertising industry were targeting children using similar marketing techniques. She is now using her experiences of fighting big tobacco to fight big food through the Obesity Policy Coalition.
