    Dr Russell Walsh

Russell Walsh trained in art history at the University of Melbourne and theatre direction at Australia’s National Institute of Dramatic Arts. He has worked in theatre as critic, director and teacher, has volunteered for the ALSO Foundation, Pride March Victoria, the Victorian AIDS Council and the Sixth International Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific (2001), and has collected anonymous data on men’s health and sexual practices for the Melbourne Periodic Survey as a research assistant (2001-2006). His doctoral dissertation Obscenities offstage: Melbourne’s gay saunas and the limits of representation (Victoria University, 2008) is available online. In 2012-13, Russell coordinated a symposium and contributed to a major publication about Paul Taylor, the Melbourne-born curator, art writer, editor and publisher who died of an AIDS-related illness in 1992.
