Creating Wealth: How Economies Grow - Freebairn Public Lecture 2018

Economics does not explain all, or arguably most, of the immense growth in productivity we have experienced since the industrial revolution. Yet the data clearly shows that natural resources and the education level of the population do not offer comprehensive explanations either. In this talk, Professor Beth Webster will discuss the missing ‘intangible’ elements that make some economies rich and others poor, what we have tried over the last few decades to sustain productivity growth, and why it may have failed.
