Doing Business in Asia: One Size Does Not Fit All

Asia has achieved unprecedented economic rise in prominence in the world economy, but to consider doing business in Asia one must understand that “Asia” is not a single nation, and one size does not fit all. As the James Riady Chair in Asian Business and Economics, Professor Jane Lu will present her work on the opportunities and challenges of doing business in Asia, and the implications for Australian firms operating in the region.

With a focus on understanding the diversity in culture, society, economic and political systems, Jane will examine historical precedents, chart the development of business and analyse the variability in business environments across Asia. The lecture will scrutinize corruption, counterfeiting, institutional lag, and the lack of transparency within different countries and will offer some viable strategies for understanding and doing business in the many and varied Asian nations.
