Picture in picture Auslan Sign.
Professor Gavin Mooney was an internationally renowned health economist who had a deep commitment to equity and social justice. Professor Mooney and his partner, Dr Del Watson, died in tragic circumstances in December 2012. This event is being held in memory of Gavin and Del.
The Gavin Mooney Memorial Oration will be delivered by Reverend Tim Costello AO (World Vision) and Mr Ross Gittins AM (Fairfax).
Reverend Tim Costello is CEO of World Vision Australia and a leading voice on social justice and equity issues.
Ross Gittins is the economics editor of the Sydney Morning Herald and economics columnist for The Age. He is renowned for his rare ability to make economic analysis and policy relevant and understandable to non-economists.
Tim Costello and Ross Gittins will share their thoughts on what needs to be done to create a more equitable Australia: the issues that need to be addressed, the public policies that need to be implemented, and the roles that politicians and civil society need to play.
This lecture is presented by the University of Melbourne in partnership with The Australia Institute.
