The Future of Quantum

Date
Oct
21
Time 5:00pm - 7:30pm
Categories Seminar or Forum

Join experts from academia, industry and government for a fascinating exploration of the quantum world in the next instalment of The Future of series.

What is quantum? For 100 years, physicists and the public have puzzled over the mysterious behaviour of waves and particles at the subatomic scale. Now, with the rise of quantum computing and the promise of a new leap in technological capability, quantum science is back in the spotlight.

The event will begin with an introductory demonstration the foundational concepts of quantum computing, including the qubit, entanglement, and superposition. An expert panel will then explore some of the most pressing questions facing the field: What are the real-world applications of quantum technology? What could go wrong? And where does Australia stand in the global quantum race?

The Future of 2026 series is presented in partnership with Lendlease.

2026 Kernot Memorial Medal Oration: Shaping Australia’s future through engineering

Date
Oct
22
Time 6:00pm - 7:30pm
Categories Public Lecture

The Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology invites you to attend the 2026 Kernot Memorial Medal Oration, celebrating engineering excellence and leadership.

The Faculty is proud to honour Samantha Read FRACI GAICD BEng (Hons) as the recipient of the 2026 Kernot Memorial Medal, FEIT’s most prestigious award, recognising her outstanding contributions to engineering and her impact across industry and public policy over a distinguished career spanning manufacturing, chemicals, automotive and renewable fuels.

In her oration, Shaping Australia’s Future Through Engineering, Samantha Read will explore how engineering leadership can help Australia turn disruption into opportunity and shape our industrial, economic and environmental future. As Australia navigates the energy transition, rapid technological change and circular economy opportunities, engineers are doing more than building what comes next. They are helping shape it.

Drawing on more than three decades of leadership across manufacturing, automotive, chemicals and renewable fuels, Samantha will share insights from a career at the intersection of industry, engineering and public policy, demonstrating the critical role engineers play in shaping Australia’s future.

This event will appeal to students, researchers, alumni, industry professionals and anyone interested in engineering, innovation, sustainability and leadership.
