Will you support natural pest control, or genetic biocontrol? Underwater soundscapes or probiotics for coral reefs? Or understanding the impact of bushfires on Australian insects? The Big Science Pitch sees five emerging researchers battle it out to secure a share of $100,000 in research funding.
Who will win the Big Science Pitch?
With just three minutes to sell their idea, the competitors need to convince the judges, the public, and author Tim Winton that their project should receive funding from the Native Australian Animals Trust.
- Host: Professor Moira O’Bryan, Dean of Science University of Melbourne
- MC: Dr Jen Martin – Science Communicator
- Special Guest Speaker: Tim Winton, award winning author and environmentalist
- Pitchers: Dr Xinyue Gu, Dr Ellen Cottingham, Dr Qike Wang, Dr Emily Fobert and Dr Justin Maire
With $10k up for grabs who will you choose?
An expert panel chooses the overall winner, and there is $10,000 up for grabs for the People’s Choice awards, and a further $10,000 ‘Winton’s Choice’ award for the project chosen by Tim Winton, patron of the Native Australian Animals Trust.
This event will allow you to see the value of philanthropy in real time and the role you can play in creating impact, supporting research that matters, and uplifting community voices.
The Centre for Resources, Energy and Environmental Law (Melbourne Law School) proudly hosts the CREEL Annual Lecture 2022, delivered by Emeritus Professor Michael Crommelin AO.
Australia is richly endowed with natural resources. The management of these resources presents enduring challenges. This lecture examines constitutional foundations of management of natural resources in Australia: colonisation, self-government, federation, property, jurisdiction and private engagement. It concludes that management goes well beyond mere regulation; it imposed demanding responsibilities.
This event will be held in a hybrid format.
