What happens when an AI goes rogue? Or perhaps, when an AI purposely commits a criminal act?
For our first in the ‘Friends of CAIDE’ series, we are proud to host Professor Ryan Abbott from the University of Surrey.
Professor Abbott will be discussing the possibilities and legal frameworks for the criminal punishment of AI. His work explores the challenges of situations where AI commits harm, with no existing practical or legally identifiable for punishment. In Sci-Fi we often see robots arrested, but what does this look like in the real world? His work proposes the use of corporate and criminal liability to enforce criminal responsibility on harmful AI. But how might we achieve this? What are the benefits and risks of criminal punishment for AI?
Join us for a discussion of AI when things go bad.
